Welcome to America!

Sometimes you take a break from the work of compassion in order to celebrate the people who make the work of compassion possible.

Here are a few fun photos of our longtime staffers Oleg & Luda enjoying their first-ever visit to America.

I suggest you widen your browser to enjoy the photos fully.

Thanks for journeying with us!
Much love,

Oleg & Luda coming to Arizona!

Big news for all New Thing friends and supporters in Arizona:

You can meet our friends from Belarus, Oleg & Luda, at an open house on Saturday, August 22nd.
They’ll be hanging out with me at Aunt Chilada’s Mexican Restaurant from 5 to 10 p.m.
You’ll be free to come and go as you please, and order whatever food and drinks you wish.

Questions? Let me hear from you.
Hope to see you there!
Thanks for journeying with us!

Much love,
Doug Brendel

You did it! They’re here!

It’s like a miracle!
Oleg & Luda, our devoted friends who live year-round in our flat on Karl Marx Street, have arrived for their first-ever visit to America!
After more than 20 years of trying to get them here, they were finally granted visas by the State Dept.
We picked them up at the Boston airport on Monday night.
They’ll be in the country for a few weeks.
I’ll keep you posted on their U.S. travel schedule as we work it out.
THANK YOU to all who gave so generously to bring them over from Belarus!
What an adventure!
Much love,
Doug Brendel

Phenomenal news: They’re coming to America!

For 23 long years, since Kristina first traveled to Belarus, we and our dear friends Oleg & Luda Yarovenko have longed for them to be allowed to visit us in America.
It’s extremely difficult to get the U.S. State Dept. to approve any Belarusian for travel to the U.S.
Oleg & Luda have been denied entrance visas before.

But by God’s grace (and the direct intervention of our Senator, Elizabeth Warren), Oleg & Luda have just been granted visas!
They are free to visit America!
Please help us bring them.

For more than a decade, they have served New Thing’s work in Belarus.
They live in our flat on Karl Marx Street year-round, host us when we’re in Minsk, and serve as our “arms and legs, eyes and ears” when we’re not there.
I think it’s about time their dream came true!

I know this is a very unusual request, but please consider helping us bring them here for a visit.
It will cost a total of $1,502.87, round trip, for both of them together.
(Amazingly low cost — hardly more than it costs me to fly to Minsk and back by myself!)

To meet supporters of New Thing, they will travel to as many places as possible. It will depend on funding for air fare. I’ll keep you posted.
But for now, I hope you’ll be willing to help us at least bring them over the ocean!

Please do whatever you can right now. Thanks for understanding, and for being a part of this!
Thank you!
Much love,
Doug Brendel
